Changing Your Maximum Bandwidth Usage

Bandwidth is a measure of the speed, quality, and strength of your internet connection.

It measures the amount of data that can be sent from one device to another over the internet, in a small amount of time.

The video visit app has the same data needs as most videoconference apps (e.g., Zoom, Teams, or FaceTime) and it automatically adjusts its bandwidth during calls if you have a lower-bandwidth internet service.

However, your bandwidth can reach its limit and cause quality issues if:

  • Your Internet Service Plan (ISP) allows only a limited amount of use (that is, you have a limited data plan).
  • Your household or office is trying to do many things on the network at the same time.

For example, if the videoconference is trying to use more bandwidth than your connection allows, it can cause the video to freeze, break up, or appear blurry or fuzzy. Or it can cause the sound to be choppy or to fade out.

You can lower the maximum bandwidth used by the video visit app before you join a call
