Video Controls on a Mac

If this is your first video call, the video window opens with "picture-in-picture" mode – with the other caller in the main screen and your image as a small image in the upper right corner. (Or if you are the only participant, you will see a "Waiting for the host" image along with your self-view.)

When you are in a video visit, a self-hiding Control Bar appears below the video image. The Video Control Bar remains visible for only a couple of seconds and then it hides.

To view the Control Bar when it’s hidden, move your mouse anywhere in the main part of the screen.

Controls include: participants panel, chat panel, video control bar, self view, and settings.

Participants Panel

The Participants Panel lists everyone in the video visit.

To show or hide the Participants Panel, click Participants button in the bottom-left of the video window.

Chat Panel

The chat panel lets you send and receive messages in the group chat.

To show or hide the Chat Panel, click Chat button.

Video Control Bar

Click a control button to turn the option on or off.

Microphone Microphone - Toggle between turning your microphone on and off.

Microphone muted You've muted your microphone. Or the host has muted you.

If you are muted by the host:

  • You can temporarily unmute by pressing the space bar on your keyboard.

  • Or un-mute by clicking the microphone control.

Camera

Camera / Privacy - Turn your broadcast video on or off.

Camera off You've put yourself in privacy mode. (You see/hear others but they cannot see you.)

Share screen

Share screen - Share your screen with other participants.

Screen being shared You're sharing your screen. To view the shared content in the larger panel, click the small image of your shared content.

Keypad

Keypad - Appears only while you are "waiting for host".

Ignore this control. Only video visit "hosts" need this feature.

Turn on blur background

Blur background - Blurs the background which can reduce distractions in your video broadcast.

Blur background on Background is blurred.

Note: The background blur works only when using a Chrome or Edge browser. It uses a lot of processing power, which could affect call quality.

Raise hand

Raise hand -Turns on an indicator to let others in the meeting know that you want to speak.

Appears only while the videoconference is in session (that is, while the host has joined).

Raise hand is on Hand is raised.

Expand shared content image

Expand 'shared content' to larger size - Appears only while screen sharing is in use.

Collapse shared content image Collapse 'shared content' to smaller size.

Leave (disconnect)
Leave - Disconnect and end your participation in the call.
Speakers / Sound Volume

To mute or adjust the sound volume within the video visit, use your computer's audio controls.

Within the video app, you can only select which speaker to use (you cannot adjust the sound).

Self-view Image

To hide your self-view, move your mouse over the self-view image and click Hide self-view.

Note: When you hide your self-view, you are still sending video to other people in the meeting.

When you hide your self-view, a mini control bar appears at the top-right of the video window. To show your self-view, click Show self-view in this mini control bar.

Microphone Microphone - Toggle between turning your microphone on and off.

Microphone muted You've muted your microphone.

Connection quality

Connection quality - Shows a panel containing information about your internet connection.

To hide the panel, click anywhere outside of the panel and within the video image.

Settings & user menu

You can access more options from the links at the top-right of the video window.

  • Download log file: If you have technical problems with the app, Technical Support might ask you to download the log file, which has detailed data about the most recent video visit.
  • About Pexip: Information about the app version and a link to its terms of service.

Settings Settings

The Settings panel offers several options for you to change features in the video visit.

After the Settings panel has opened:

  • To apply new settings, click Save changes button.
  • To cancel or hide the panel without changing anything, click Cancel changes button or click anywhere outside of the panel.

Personal Settings

  • Devices
    • Shows the currently selected devices.
    • Test your sound lets you check that the selected speakers are working properly.
  • Connection quality
    • Controls the amount of bandwidth you will use for the call.
    • If you are on a slow Wi-Fi or cellular connection, or if you experience low-quality video, you can change bandwidth to a lower setting.
  • Self-view
    • Lets you check that your image is centered and well lit.
    • The green bar shows your microphone usage. It moves when your microphone detects sound.
  • Noise suppression
    • Turned off by default.
    • Turn on to reduce the volume of non-speech background noise in the audio you are sending to the videoconference.

Effects

  • None
    • The default background effect.
    • The background appears as it is without any effect applied.
  • Blur*
    • Blurs the background, which can reduce distractions in your video broadcast.
  • Replace*
    • Change your background to the image shown in the panel.
  • Self-view
    • Lets you check how the background effect will look.
    • You can also check that your image is centered and well lit.

 

*Note: Blur and Replace background effects use a lot of processing power which can negatively affect your video quality.
